As a Marketing and Communications Coordinator at the School of Applied Sciences, my role encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities, all aimed at enhancing the school's visibility, promoting events, and engaging with the student community. Key contributions and achievements in this role include:
-
Social Media Marketing: I manage the school's social media presence, curating content and engaging with the audience to promote various events, academic programs, and student accomplishments. This involved creating and scheduling posts across platforms, tracking engagement metrics, and adapting the content strategy for optimal results.
-
Photography: Captured high-quality images at school events, speaker engagements, classes, and student activities. These photographs were used for promotional materials, social media content, and event promotion, enhancing the school's visual representation.
-
Video Production: Produced promotional videos to showcase the school's programs and departments. These videos were used for marketing campaigns and as part of the school's online presence.
-
Graphic Design: Created visually appealing graphics for various marketing materials, including flyers, brochures, and digital assets. These designs were aimed at promoting school events, programs, and initiatives, reinforcing the school's brand identity.
-
Promotional Items: Designed promotional items for the school, such as merchandise and giveaways, contributing to the school's branding and fostering a sense of community among students.
-
Website Design and Updates: Played a key role in website design and maintenance, ensuring the school's online presence remained up-to-date and user-friendly. This included regular updates, content creation, and design improvements to enhance the website's effectiveness as a communication and marketing tool.
In my internship, I worked closely with the realtors at Nix-Tann and created marketing materials to fit their clients’ needs. I used my graphic design skills to create flyers, brochures, business cards, and Oxford housing maps. I created spreadsheets for the realtors with information on HOA fees and potential buyers or sellers. I also photographed and videoed events in Oxford, and worked in collaboration with their contract group on their social media accounts, especially with creating Instagram Reels.
Through my job as a Sales Associate at Oxford Floral, I provided exceptional customer service by assisting clients with product selection and creating a personalized shopping experience. I also managed point-of-sale transactions efficiently, maintaining customer satisfaction. I developed strong relationships with customers, fostering loyalty and repeat business. I addressed customer inquiries and resolved issues promptly. I also demonstrated project management abilities by coordinating inventory management and sales floor organization, optimizing the shopping experience and meeting sales targets.
During my internship, I worked under the Director of the Glycoscience Center of Research Excellence (GlyCORE), and created graphics, photographed events, made posts on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, and took headshots and group photos. Although Social Media Intern was my official title, I did a lot of work outside of social media. I interviewed our researchers about their projects, wrote articles, helped plan and produce events like the annual Mid-South Glycoscience Meeting, updated the website, and created promotional materials.
At Moss Creek Plants, I began my first steps into marketing while I was home for the summer during COVID. I photographed and edited pictures of their plants and retail items and made posts on Instagram and Facebook. I also created a giveaway contest on Instagram to gain followers and engagements.
